about

This album is raw and riddled with imperfections. All of the songs were recorded in places that were special to me in Athens, Ohio with people I care about. In so many ways, this album holds pieces of the things I cherish in my life. I hope that you enjoy it.

Track Name: November Wishes
I fear the summer heat has won
Just look at what these hands have done
Mistakes we made return again
The cold November's rolling in
Cloaked in guilt and fear and sin
The cold November's rolling in

Father help me in the sun
It's not the darkness I'm hiding from
No I don't fear what I cannot see
It's what I do that frightens me
In blazing heat and scorching sun
Oh winter into your arms I'll run
Oh winter into your arms I'll run

Someday soon the chill shall end
And spring can claim the earth again
What's green is gold and then fades to grey
So a bitter winter, this I'll pray
A bitter winter, this I'll pray
Track Name: Frozen in New York City
I've never been to New York City, but the thought has got me wonderin'
If my life will ever take me there someday
Maybe there I'd meet somebody who would teach me how to love
Like the movie stars and writers wish they...

Wish they could talk about when nights get colder
Spending lonely evenings getting older day by day
Shivering in the cold and empty
Thinking if this don't change, then we'll wither away
That feeling's seeping into your bones
Thinkin' anything is better than alone

Well I can tell you're growin weary and I guess that makes the two of us
We'd always thought we'd work it out someday
Your frustration ain't so pretty while your tryin to remember
How the hell we even got here anyway

The dusty tattered picture frames of
Memories long forgotten on the other side of the road
Teardrops falling, trying to
remember voices screaming, saying, "You don't have to do this alone"
Naturally on deaf ears they may fall
And we wonder if it's worth the say at all

Oh darling I know you're tired of the way things seem to be
But I'm begging please don't give up on this now
I never want to end up like those movie stars, you see
All alone and broken down

With their softly flickering fire places
Hanging onto shadows fading, trying to ease their minds
But bricks and mortar crumble
As the wind and rain beat them down, down over time
Till all that's left is rubble and dust
So I thank the Lord I never needed much

I've never been to New York City, but I've got a sneaking feeling
That if I packed my bags and went, I'd see you there
Well that ain't bad in theory, but honey we both know
That if this winter's cold, we're freezing as a pair

The frost clouding the window pane
And cold breath whispering, "Maybe we weren't meant to make it at all"
It feels like we've been frozen since we burned out
And our ashes flew away a long time ago
Never to be seen again
Track Name: Searching for Simplicity
All around the world people dance and sing
to forget about their troubles and their strife
Curbside prophets shout, they say the end is now
But no one seems to care whether they're right.

Children cry and mothers dry their eyes
As screaming sirens swiftly rush away
Policemen yell, they cry, "All is well"
But no one pays attention to what they say.

The street musicians sing another joyful song
and the lonely broken people stare and sing along

It ain't easy now
The simplicity, how beautiful the sound
It's drowning out the steady beating of my insufficiencies
Sometimes it's just too much to take
But I know that you'll carry me anyway
I know I may be lost for now
But someday we'll have it all figured out

The beggars beg and watch as the lovers give up
A young girl cries alone with a broken heart
Mothers stay while fathers run away
Another happy family torn apart

The street musicians sing another joyful song
and the lonely broken people stare and sing along

It ain't easy now
The simplicity, how beautiful the sound
It's drowning out the steady beating of my insufficiencies
Sometimes it's just too much to take
But I know that you'll carry me anyway
I know I may be lost for now
But someday we'll have it all figured out

Drowning in your vanity, it's suffocating now
We're searching for simplicity, but it takes a little time
I guess we're all a little broken, lonely if nothing at all
Track Name: Happiness
Her hair, it dances in the breeze
Cloaked in beauty from her head to her feet
The moon shines on her face so elegantly
The deep blue beauty of the ocean in her eye
When she smiles I feel a burnin on the inside
How could I deserve one so ravishing and divine
I'm out of my mind

God what took all this happiness so long
So frustrating I think I'm fed up with all my waiting
Been waiting on happiness for far too long

She came along with a song to sing or two
With a voice like an angel she sings "baby, I want to save you"
Baby, sing along

God what took all this happiness so long
So frustrating I think I'm fed up with all my waiting
Been waiting on happiness for far too long

Happiness, been waiting on happiness
I don't want to wait

Darling let's face it, this distance ain't easy
It's a bit more than I can stand
Oh together we'll erase it, all our failures and fears
We'll replace them with the melodies in your head
Track Name: Break Down
I don't want to break down, Lord I'm tearing at the seams
I don't want to break down, I fear it's too late for me
Don't let me break down, darlin' take this pain away
No don't let me break down, I feel I'm fallin anyway

Jealousy consuming, I can feel I'm losing my grip on who I want to be
Feelin' worthless, its this even worth it
Oh God, am I just a waste

I don't want to break down, Lord I'm tearing at the seams
I don't want to break down, I fear it's too late for me
Don't let me break down, darlin' take this pain away
No don't let me break down, I feel I'm fallin anyway

The earth is shaking, I can't keep making sense of all this disarray inside my head
My spirit's breaking, body's racing
I get so lost in my own thoughts, oh it's too much

I don't want to lose control
But I'm fallin' away
Track Name: A Song About Death and Hope
A young man walks alone on a cold winter's night
His eyes are black and blue, his lips are red and bloody from the fight
He's learning lessons that we all must learn in life
The world is cold without a home
It just gets harder as we go

See, he got beat up for a place to lay his head
Ran away a long time ago, left his little baby daughter without a dad
You don't know desperate 'till a cardboard shack's your bed
But it happens all the time
And desperate's never been a crime

We all fall to pieces, we all break down and cry
We all hang our heads, afraid to hold them up sometimes
They say life's a struggle, they say we'll always need to fight
And hey, maybe they're right

A young girl tosses and turns, awake and all alone
Her father left her and her mother hardly ever stays at home
She thinks, Dad, you said you'd stay and watch me grow
But promises aren't all they use to be
At least I hope you're happy and you're free

A few miles away a couple tears fall to the ground
The young man covers up his face wishing he was still around
Tell her he cares and pick her up when she falls down
But past mistakes can't be undone
Life's just a game he's never won

We all fall to pieces, we all break down and cry
We all hang our heads, afraid to hold them up sometimes
They say life's a struggle, they say we'll always need to fight
And hey, maybe they're right

Desperation grips the corners of his mind
In his hand's a pistol, the deadliest kind of poison you can find
He loads a bullet, takes a deep breath, closes his eyes
Then he puts that gun up to his head
Thinking, Maybe things would be better if I'm dead

He catches a glimpse of death from underneath the door
He screams, "I don't think I can bear to live this life anymore"
Death walks in, his black cloak dragging on the floor
Says, "Pull that trigger and come with me
But maybe it's not as hopeless as it seems"

You see,
We all fall to pieces, we all break down and cry
We all hang our heads, afraid to hold them up sometimes
They say life's a struggle, they say we'll always need to fight
And hey, maybe they're right

The young man drops his pride and falls to his knees
He looks up at death and says, "Sorry, but I've got promises to keep.
We all get down some times and cry ourselves to sleep
But you just can't help being sad
When you've got that devil on your back"

Death threw back his hood and said, "Son forgive me please
I've never seen a man like you, so humble, fallin' on his knees
You're not begging too much, but I see it in your eyes
You've got more will to live than the sun's got will to rise

"So, Pack your bags, go home, kiss your daughter
Tell her how much you missed her and how much you love her
Someday you and I will meet again, Some might even call us friends
You're a young man, got your whole life ahead
Things will get better, so try and be happy instead
Just cherish the ones that you love, I'll be waiting for you please don't give up

But your hair is already turning grey
So please don't waste your life away
